When people decide to become a nurse they have to decide on what type they would like to be. The most basic position is given to the certified nursing assistant. Those who wish to have more diversity in jobs and to make better money will work to become a registered nurse – RN.
Trying to succeed in this career is going to be a hard road – but if you are up to the challenge and willing to push yourself than you will do great. The first thing that you have to do is earn your BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). This is a four year degree that requires you to take general education and science classes. This will include anatomy, biology, physiology, and chemistry.
You will also have to take the Nurse Program Entrance Exam. When you pass this exam you will be accepted at a core nursing program. You will need to take either the Nursing Entrance Test or the Test of Essential Academic Skills.
The core BSN program will teach you advanced anatomy, physiology, patient care, nutrition, pathology, and radiology. You will also be required to learn about medical management and administration and health care planning. This will take between two to three years to finish.
In order to graduate you must have some clinical experience. The program will place you in a health care facility for a few weeks or months. You will be under the supervision of other nurses or doctors and be given an overall grade at the end of the internship.
The last thing that you have to do is take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. This will test your knowledge on everything that you have learned. It is their job to make sure that each nurse that goes into the medical field understands everything they have been taught. You must be licensed by the state you will be working in.
