As a clinical nurse specialist you will be working in a diverse work environment. This particular area of nursing is for anyone that has earned their BSN. In order to pursue this job you must first have earned your bachelor in nursing science degree and received your license as a registered nurse. Once that is completed you will be able to do research on the various clinical specialties that a nurse at this level is able to pursue. Look carefully at the list and decide on the one that is best suited to your skills and what you would like to be doing long term. There are three methods you can use for this process. The first is to choose a department that you are best suited to; emergency room care, lab, etc. The second is to choose the area of medicine that you are most interested in; pediatrics, geriatrics, etc. Some people might even choose based on the type of diseases they would like to be helping to cure such as; cancer, psychiatric care, etc.
As a clinical nurse you will be expected to perform a variety of different jobs. If you are a case manager you will be in charge or organizing and coordinating patient care and the cost of that care. As an educator you will be in charge of teaching potential students in the hospital environment and showing them the ins and outs of how it all runs.
Once you have completed your schooling and earned the proper certification you will have the ability to work in various health care facilities. You will be able to work in hospitals, psychiatric facilities, home health, nursing homes, and mental health hospitals.
